Look at what our dive instructor Michi found during today’s afternoon dive: a giant frogfish.
Frogfishes are any member of the anglerfish family Antennariidae, of the order Lophiiformes and are some of the more unusual fish you’ll see in the Maldives: they don’t usually move a lot, preferring to lie in wait for their prey to approach. When they do move, they rarely swim; instead they seem to ‘clamber’ along the sea bottom using their fins which looks like they’re walking!
Many species can change colour over time and are well camouflaged which helps them to lure prey as well as to avoid being seen by predators.
We were all so excited to see the pictures because we love frogfish!
