Milaidhoo only accommodates children over the age of 9
The opening of the boutique Milaidhoo Island Maldives this November marks the start of a new trend in travel for the Maldives, which we call ‘reinvented luxury’.
If you know and love the Maldives, you’ll remember when all villas had thatched roofs; you’ll remember when you never had to wear shoes or dress up for dinner; and you’ll remember when there were no TVs, internet or newspapers on the islands. We remember that too. At Milaidhoo we want to bring back the true Maldives feel by researching the history and traditions of our country, and reinterpreting them in a contemporary, luxurious way.
To us, luxury travel is about the authenticity of the experience and how it touches your heart. We believe that a stay with us must be genuinely Maldivian, but it must also be contemporary and luxurious too. It’s that unique combination of authenticity delivered in a modern way that defines reinvented luxury.
This means the simple life on a small island where guests can become part of nature, going barefoot and exploring the beauty of the country. Yes, if you need it, we have wi-fi and yes, we have satellite TV (discreetly hidden behind a traditional Maldivian artwork in your villa so you can always pretend it’s not there). Reinvented luxury is about building a place where our guests feel like they belong; offering truly personalised service; sharing the heritage and culture of the Maldives and keeping Maldivian architectural and lifestyle traditions but bringing them into the 21st century.
Shunning the current trend for high-gloss name-dropping look-at-me hotel glitz; at Milaidhoo barefoot informality is at the very heart of our ethos where selfie-sticks and drones are not encouraged. Instead, we offer a return to a classic, relaxed Maldivian holiday style on a tiny island with deep soft white sand beaches and a vibrant coral reef.
As a Maldivian company we believe we’re best placed to bring genuine Maldivian luxury to our guests. If you ask any traveller what they imagine in a Maldives holiday, they’ll tell you about tiny palm-fringed islands, a coral reef and wooden, thatched-roof villas on stilts over a turquoise lagoon. That’s exactly what we’re offering. It’s both very modern and wonderfully timeless.
